How this test works
Choose a 1, 5, 10, 30, or 60 second window. The first activation of the pad both adds a click and starts the timer, so there is no separate start signal to react to. During a run, CPS is the count divided by elapsed time; the final score is the count divided by the selected window length, shown to one decimal place. Reset clears the current run, and changing the window starts you over too; neither clears Session best.
A press counts the moment the page receives pointerdown for the primary button or a touch, before the click completes. The click event that trails the same press is ignored, so a tap is never counted twice. Activating the pad from the keyboard still counts, because it arrives as a click with detail set to 0. Browsers without Pointer Events use mousedown and touchstart instead. Every time is read from performance.now() as the page handles each press, so a stuttering display cannot stretch the window, and a press handled at or after the cutoff is discarded.
The score counts the presses that reach the page, so your mouse, operating system and browser are part of it; compare runs on the same device, browser, input method and window length. A chattering switch that double-clicks raises the count just like fast jitter clicking, and the score cannot tell the two apart. The test also does not measure click latency, the delay between pressing the button and the click registering, because the page never sees the moment of the physical press.
Frequently asked questions
What counts as a good CPS score?
One that beats your own earlier runs. This page has no population average or leaderboard, so compare each score with runs on the same device and window length, and keep tap scores separate from mouse scores.
Why can my 1 second and 60 second scores differ?
They measure different things. One second captures a burst, while 60 seconds asks you to keep going for a full minute, and your pace drops as your hand tires. Each click also weighs more in the short window, because the final count is divided by fewer seconds. Compare a 1 second run only with other 1 second runs.
Does my mouse change the result?
Yes. If the switch is worn and double-clicks, every extra press it sends adds to your count. If slow, deliberate clicking gives a higher count than you made, the switch may be chattering: check its intervals in the mouse test, and try another mouse in the same browser to compare.
Can I take the test on a phone or tablet?
Yes. A tap counts the moment your finger touches the pad, and the timer and CPS work the same way as with a mouse. Each finger is tracked separately, so alternating two or more fingers counts every contact (older browsers without Pointer Events can count fingers that land together as one). Keep touch scores separate from mouse scores and tap the same way each time.
Is my score recorded or uploaded anywhere?
No. Counting and timing run in this page, and your score is never transmitted. There are no accounts or leaderboards. Session best is the highest CPS from any completed run in this tab, across all window lengths, and it is kept in page memory only. Reset and window changes leave it in place; closing or reloading the tab clears it. Write down any scores you want to keep.
